KidSTART Stories

KidSTART Stories helps KidSTART families build children’s early language and reading habits with a home library, free reading guides, and storytelling events. It strengthens parent-child bonding and supports early literacy development.

Overview

  • Early literacy initiative that supports parents to build their children's language foundation and foster a love of reading.
  • Designed primarily for KidSTART families (families with less resources supported by KidSTART Singapore) to boost parent-child bonding through storytelling and books.
  • Key benefits include:
    • A mini home library: child-height bookshelf (one-time provision per family) and an age-appropriate book package (6–8 titles, refreshed annually).
    • Free reading and storytelling guides (including multilingual subtitle options) to help parents confidently engage their children, even if they are not confident readers.
    • Themed events that "bring stories to life" and provide a Storytelling Guide for continued learning at home.
  • Programme has been running since October 2022 with an annual pre-order window for the Home Library between March and April.

Eligibility details

Primarily for KidSTART families. One child-height bookshelf is provided once per KidSTART family for the duration of their KidSTART journey. Book packages (6–8 age-appropriate titles) are refreshed annually. Eligibility to become a KidSTART Family applies (for families with less resources supported by KidSTART).

How to apply

  1. Sign up as a KidSTART Family at https://go.gov.sg/beakidstartfamily or via the "Sign up with us"/"Be a KidSTART Family" links on the KidSTART website. 2) Once onboarded, pre-order the KidSTART Stories Home Library (bookshelf and/or annual book package) during the yearly window between March and April. 3) Follow the KidSTART Events page for upcoming KidSTART Stories events and attend to receive a Storytelling Guide. 4) Access the online reading guides (videos) to support storytelling at home.
