Overview
- Steady Readers is an intervention literacy programme designed for children who are reading below their academic level.
- Focuses on building strong foundations in English literacy through phonics-based instruction (Jolly Phonics and the Fitzroy Method), guided reading, worksheet time, and social-emotional learning.
- Aims to improve reading, comprehension, speaking, and presentation skills, boosting children's confidence and overall literacy.
- Conducted in small groups (2 students with 1–2 volunteer mentors) to ensure personalized attention.
- Operates on a semester basis (Jan–May and Jul–Nov), with 14 lessons per semester; includes enrichment through excursions and learning journeys.
- Affordable fees ($20 per semester), with fee waivers available for SSO referrals and families needing additional support.
- Delivered at multiple community and school locations across Singapore, including Sembawang, Bedok, Tampines, Woodlands, Teck Whye, Sengkang (Anchor Green), Admiralty, Bukit Batok, and more.
- Variants include Steady Readers, Steady Readers Plus, and NLPS Steady Readers at New Life Preschools.
