Viriya Children’s Education Fund
Whispering Hearts Family Service Centre provides casework, counselling and community programmes for individuals and families in Boon Lay, Nanyang and Pioneer.
Overview
- Viriya Back-to-School Fund: Helps children and youths from families receiving VCS casework services prepare for the new school term. One-off award of S$100.
- Viriya Bursary Award: Rewards students who have shown academic improvement, specifically an improvement of at least 1 grade point (5 marks) in at least 1 core subject from SA1 to SA2. One-off award of S$300.
- Viriya-KPMG Scholarship Award: Recognises students with excellent academic achievement — Band 1 or 'A' in all subjects (Primary), or 'A' in First Language and 5 other subjects (Secondary). One-off award of S$600.
- The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF): Provides ongoing monthly pocket money to students from low-income families to help them through school, also alleviating financial stress on parents. Monthly award of S$65 (Primary), S$100 (Secondary), or S$125 (Post-secondary).

Common requirements across all 4 funds:
- Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Studying full-time in a government or government-aided school
- Net per capita household income of S$750-S$800 or less
Fund-specific requirements: Viriya Back-to-School Fund
- Family must be receiving VCS casework services at time of application through to disbursement
- Primary and Secondary school students only
- Students already receiving other scholarships or bursaries may still apply
Viriya Bursary Award & Viriya-KPMG Scholarship Award
- Family must be receiving VCS casework services at time of application through to disbursement
- Primary and Secondary school students only
- Must NOT be receiving any other scholarship or bursary, except the Edusave Merit Bursary
The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (STSPMF)
- No VCS casework requirement
- Open to a wider range of institutions — mainstream schools (Primary through Polytechnic/JC/ITE), specialised/special education schools, and religious schools (e.g. madrasah)
- Post-secondary applicants must be 20 years old or younger at point of application
How to apply
Submit a fully completed application with all required supporting documents to Viriya. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered. All funds are reviewed annually and recipients may re-apply each year.
