Overview

Star Shelter, operated by SCWO, is Singapore’s only non-religious shelter for women and children survivors of family violence.

It offers:

  • Temporary accommodation
  • Meals and clothing
  • Trauma/crisis counselling
  • Case management
  • Empowerment programmes

Additional support includes:

  • Financial aid for transport
  • No-interest home loan to help survivors rebuild their lives

Referrals are typically made through:

  • Family Service Centres
  • Family Court
  • Police
  • Hospitals
  • Other agencies

Limited self-referral options are considered.

Eligibility details

Females aged 21 to 60 years; children of the victim (male children must be 12 years or below); must be a survivor of family violence; referral from Family Service Centre, Family Court, Police, Hospitals, or other agencies; self-referrals considered case-by-case; maximum stay of three months; must actively work towards resolving issues and seeking alternative accommodation or employment.

How to apply

Approach the nearest Family Service Centre for assessment and referral using the MSF standard form, which is then emailed to shelter management. Self-referrals are considered on a case-by-case basis.
