Education support and financial assistance for school-related expenses and tutoring for low-income students in Singapore, provided by the Sikh Welfare Council (SIWEC).

Overview

SIWEC’s Education Support Programmes ensure that no child is left behind due to financial constraints by covering essential school-related expenses and providing academic support.

  • Helps students from low-income families, including those on MOE Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) and School Assistance Scheme (SAS), as well as families under SIWEC’s assistance
  • Covers key education costs such as school fees, textbooks, uniforms, and school bus expenses, including support for Non-Tamil Indian Languages (NTIL)
  • Provides targeted academic support in core subjects (English, Mathematics, Science, Mother Tongue/NTIL) through the Academic Excellence Programme for students who cannot afford tuition
  • Tailors support to each student’s needs and monitors progress to encourage holistic development, confidence, and resilience
  • Aligns support with the academic calendar to sustain learning outcomes

Eligibility details

  • Students under SIWEC’s assistance scheme, or students supported by MOE Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) and/or School Assistance Scheme (SAS)
  • Students needing support for English, Mathematics, Science, Mother Tongue, or NTIL subjects
  • For tuition support (Academic Excellence Programme): prioritised for students struggling academically whose families cannot afford tuition
  • All applications undergo assessment to determine eligibility and suitability
  • Support period aligns with the academic calendar
